Forty years ago this July, I was thrilled to see Emerson, Lake & Palmer play for the first time. In preparation, I painted a version of Trilogy and attached a note on the back confidently explaining that I should be hired to paint all of ELP’s future album covers. Once the show ended, I went up to the stage and begged a roadie to please deliver my art to the band!
On 5/28/16, I attended The Official Keith Emerson Tribute Concert in Los Angeles. Musically and emotionally, it was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to, and I’m glad to have shared that experience with so many of my good friends that night. I believe it is now possible to say that I finally got a reply to the letter I wrote as a 17-year old, as Keith’s longtime bandmate & collaborator Marc Bonilla asked me to reimagine the iconic Tarkus for the cover of the upcoming DVD release of that wonderful show. I’m humbled, and beyond honored that I was able to create this piece in memory of my hero, Keith Emerson.
